Register your serial number before anything happens. Every insurer asks for proof of ownership on a theft claim, and this is the cheapest way to have it ready.
The one thing to do before you need insurance
Photograph your bike’s serial number (usually stamped under the bottom bracket, where the cranks meet the frame), keep the purchase receipt, and register it with a free national registry. Every insurer that sells theft cover will ask you to prove the bike was yours and what it was worth. Riders who assemble that after a theft are the ones who wait.
If you’re working out what coverage you need in the first place, start with the guides — particularly what your homeowners or renters policy already covers, since for a lot of riders that answer changes whether you need a policy at all.
